What type of explorer are you?

Destination Canada has a neat quiz you can take to see what kind of traveler you are.   Categories that would apply to folks who enjoy The Cottage in Hills and what this area has to offer:

Cultural explorer: You are a very active traveler who enjoys frequent weekend escapes. Always on the move, you immerse yourself in nature, local culture and history.

Free spirit: Something of a thrill-seeking hedonist, travel satisfies your insatiable need for the exciting and the exotic (for the extreme mountain-bikers and radical back-country skiers who love our mountains)

Gentle explorer: You like to return to past destinations and enjoy the security of familiar surroundings. You appreciate convenience, relaxation and typically look for all the comforts of home (for our repeat guests who appreciate our cozy, nicely appointed cottage)

Rejuvenator: For you, travel is a chance to totally disconnect and get away from it all (this sums it up perfectly!)

Authentic experiencer: Your travel type is something of an improv artist, exploring nature, history and culture, all on the path to personal development.

What kind of explorer are you?  Take the quiz at:  http://quiz.canada.travel/caen?partnerid=749&campaignid=&customerid=&mode=2.

Roosters a hit with young guest

A recent 11-year-old guest was thrilled with our chickens (on our neighbouring farm near the Cottage in Hills). He took these artistic photos of the roosters and some pretty flowers, and gave me permission to share them with you.  – Manager, Lorna

Just a short distance from The Cottage in Hills is Chiaroscuro Photographic Gallery featuring the stunning images of local luminary Patrizia Menton.  Her fine art photography is well worth a look and the setting of her quaint gallery building, nestled in a luscious garden full of blooms next to a cool creek, is a delight.  If you want a glimpse into “back-roads Hills,” visit Patrizia’s gallery.  She is open most days… to be sure, give her a call at 250-358-2569.   Preview some of her work at:  http://www.patriziamenton.com  2016 marks the 20th anniversary of her artistic endeavours; she is presenting a retrospective of her work.

Cottage in Hills now listed on Google

Ever watch the vintage cartoon Pinky & The Brain?  “What are we going to do tonight, Brain?  Same as every night, Pinky, world domination.”   In that same spirit, The Cottage in Hills is now listed on the ultimate engine of world domination: Google.  Which means if you go on Google Maps for this area, or search for us on Google, our humble cottage will show up!  Feel free to view, comment, like, etc. as this makes world domination increasingly possible.  Yes, we have a very long way to go, but Rome wasn’t built in a day!  – With tongue firmly in cheek… The Manager, Cottage in Hills

Cottage renters have more fun

When you travel, do you love to stay in vacation-rental-by-owner cottages and cabins?  I do… no cookie-cutter hotel chains for us!  Instead, we love the anticipation of turning the key in the door and discovering the little quirks, thoughtful touches and unique nuances of our temporary home-away-from-home.  It’s fun to go from room to room, each one a discovery.  I’ve always been delighted with our vacation rental accommodations, be they funky or fancy, modern or heritage.

Relax, you're on lake time
Relax, you’re on lake time when you get to The Cottage in Hills

Why stay in a cramped, anonymous hotel room on a noisy main drag when you can have your own spacious secluded cottage with a lovely landscaped yard?  At our Cottage in Hills, you’ll enjoy a full kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a gorgeous mountain view from your front porch and room for the kids (or you) to run around.  Best of all, you can walk to the beach or drive there in less than 3 minutes — I timed it the last time I went down for a refreshing dip on a hot day.  In wintertime, you can head out cross-country skiing right from your front porch.

Cottage in Hills is on the fabulous West Koot Route which is popular with motorists, bicyclists and motorcycle-touring enthusiasts.  World-class hiking, biking and exploring can be had from your front door.

Our objective at the Cottage in Hills is to provide you with a healthy, relaxing and rejuvenating vacation experience in a quiet, beautiful setting you will want to come back to year after year.  Dates are going fast so contact us now to discuss your booking.     —  Your host, Lorna
