New this year is the Guest Room in Hills, located on the same beautiful rural property as the Cottage in Hills. The Guest Room in Hills is an option for a single person (or a couple sharing a double bed) looking for a place to stay that is more modest than renting the Cottage (which is a fully-outfitted cabin, a small house that sleeps 6).
The Guest Room in Hills is available for one-night stays whereas the Cottage has minimum-stay requirements ranging from 2 to 4 nights depending on the time of year.
Features of the Guest Room in Hills:
Private entrance, located in a separate part of the dwelling for complete privacy
Your own private patio with a view of Slocan Lake
Double bed with pillow-top mattress and high-quality sheets
En-suite bathroom with sink and toilet
Reading chair (recliner) and a good light, a small desk and a chair, and a place to hang your clothes
Tea/coffee tray so you can make a cuppa anytime
A sturdy farm breakfast is available for an extra fee of $15/person (advance notice required). Enjoy delicious fresh eggs from our chicken coop, you can even gather them yourself if you wish!
Cost is only $70/night single or double. Breakfast is extra as noted above. The room is comfortable for one or two people (2 guests maximum occupancy). No pets, no smoking indoors (you may smoke on the patio), no parties.
The Guest Room in Hills is listed on Airbnb, we are handling bookings using that platform, or you can inquire here using the response form on this web-site: please specify that your inquiry is regarding the Guest Room in Hills and not the Cottage.
We’ve been getting inquiries about winter bookings and while we love hosting guests at The Cottage in Hills, a bit of snow-season context is in order.
The cottage is tucked away in a very private rural location (just outside New Denver B.C.) where we generally get lots of snow. This means that for winter guests’ arrival we have the road plowed. Depending on the amount of snow on the ground this can be costly.
Cleaning, restocking and wintertime heating of a 1300-square-foot house costs a chunk of money. That’s why we don’t do one-night stays, the considerable work and cost involved simply isn’t worth opening up the Cottage for such a short stay.
In winter, we require a four-night minimum — with a week being ideal (don’t forget, stay six nights and your 7th night is FREE). We think you deserve a proper break to rest, refresh and rejuvenate.
Fall 2018 SALE rate: Miss out on vacation time this summer? Don’t fret — during September and October we’re making it extra-easy for you to retreat to The Cottage in Hills for some R&R.
Fall is the best time of year here, with warm clear days and crisp starry nights. Hike or cycle our amazing mountain trails, go jump in the lake, cook a simple dinner in the cabin’s fully-equipped kitchen and then enjoy a romantic campfire under the stars.
Sound like the perfect fall vacation? Book now to take advantage of our 2018 Fall SALE rate: $175 (double-occupancy) per night. Plus, stay a bit and your 7th night is FREE!
As well, in fall our summertime four-night minimum is waived; in the fall we allow 2-night minimum stays — this makes our cabin the perfect setting for a weekend getaway. Of course we encourage longer stays in our lovely and private cottage in the woods, but we understand that sometimes you can only afford a mini-break.
This is a Cottage in Hills web-site offer only. We want to reward you for finding us and booking with us directly, this rate is not available through our Airbnb or TripAdvisor listings or the other online booking sites we use. Call now to book (250-358-2722) or use the response form on this web-site (Rates, Dates & Bookings page) to shoot us a message.
Yay, fall vacay!
See you soon… Your host Lorna at The Cottage in Hills
These comments from recent guests: “Hi Lorna. We had a lovely time there. Such a beautiful spot!… We really appreciated how clean and well-cared-for the cottage was, so we tried to keep it in good order during our stay. Your cleaning person is definitely a cleaning wizard. I didn’t see a speck of dirt. Everything was neat and tidy!”
We are thrilled to announce the world premiere of the Cottage in Hills video. Filmed, edited and produced by Kerry McArthur and Mark Wolfe, the bright lights at Kootenay Business TV (KBTV). In addition to this lovely show ‘n’ tell video about the Cottage in Hills, KBTV has produced a multitude of short films on cool things happening in this part of the world. Check them out!
Taken in mid-February 2018, this view of our nearby Hills trail shows the huge crowds you can (not) expect on the local X-C ski trail on a beautiful winter’s day. Ski to this trail right from the door of the Cottage in Hills!
A big shout-out to our colleagues at Ocean Adventures Charter company. Our dear friends Eric and Trish run this amazing operation from their 54-foot ship, the Great Bear II. Their coastal trips are utterly deluxe and offer unparalleled comfort and privacy to experience B.C.’s most remote and spectacular settings. On their ocean voyages guests may see whales, dolphin, bears (including grizzlies and possibly the rare white spirit bear), all manner of seals and other marine mammals, and the amazing biodiversity of BC’s rich coastal areas.
They are also passionate conservationists, advocates for bears of all types… and all-round amazing people. They were recently instrumental in convincing the BC government to finally heed massive public outcry and ban the hunting of grizzly bears. This is a huge stride forward for the conservation of these majestic (and endangered) creatures, and this little guy, for one, thanks them!
