Snuggly wintertime splendour…

We’ve been getting inquiries about winter bookings and while we love hosting guests at The Cottage in Hills, a bit of snow-season context is in order.

Get snuggly!
  1.  The cottage is tucked away in a very private rural location (just outside New Denver B.C.) where we generally get lots of snow.  This means that for winter guests’ arrival we have the road plowed.  Depending on the amount of snow on the ground this can be costly.
  2.  Cleaning, restocking and wintertime heating of a 1300-square-foot house costs a chunk of money.  That’s why we don’t do one-night stays, the considerable work and cost involved simply isn’t worth opening up the Cottage for such a short stay.

In winter, we require a four-night minimum — with a week being ideal (don’t forget, stay six nights and your 7th night is FREE).  We think you deserve a proper break to rest, refresh and rejuvenate.

Getting Ready for a Busy Summer

It’s only February and my phone, the e-mail link from this web-site, and my listings on Airbnb, TripAdvisor and Booking[dot]com have been buzzing louder than the bees in the Cottage garden, looking for summer 2016 bookings.

There are several large family weddings coming to town, the Valhalla Summer School of Music in August, all the other great programs of the Valhalla Fine Arts Society — and of course the world-famous Hills Garlic Festival on September 11th.  If you want to get in on the action, you’d better book now.   – Manager, Lorna

Special Fall Offer from Henrietta our resident wild turkey

A message from Henrietta the wild turkey:  It is so lovely right now that I’m sad you aren’t here…

It is such glorious Indian Summer weather right now that I have to extend you this invitation for a fall getaway.

Indian Summer is the most gorgeous time of year here: the fruit is ripe and dripping off the trees, the leaves are changing colour and gently sashaying to the ground, the daytime sunshine glistens on the still-warm lake.  At night the bite of fall is in the clear, starry air while you’re out toasting marshmallows at the outdoor fireplace.

Rent my mountain cottage where you can breathe in the crisp autumn air and enjoy the brilliant fall colors.  Go for a hike or just sit on the covered front porch gazing at stunning Mount Vingolf between sips of your favourite beverage.  In the evening, curl up by the wood-stove with a good book, watch a movie or crack out the Scrabble game and challenge your partner to a best-of-three tournament.  I would love to have you at our vacation rental cottage here in Hills, in the glorious Slocan Valley.  Once you come, you won’t want to leave.

It’s a thing of beauty

Here’s what you’ll see when you come to The Cottage in Hills property.  I had my friend Manna in New Denver (artist, dancer and proprietor of the wonderfully eclectic Raven’s Nest store) paint a directional sign for The Cottage in Hills.  I said “try to replicate my logo, put a big arrow on it, and at the bottom paint some flowers or whatever.”  The result is so beautiful it is almost a shame to put it outside — I’m thinking of having it framed for our living room.    —  Your host, Lorna  DSC01477 DSC01452 DSC01448

Cottage renters have more fun

When you travel, do you love to stay in vacation-rental-by-owner cottages and cabins?  I do… no cookie-cutter hotel chains for us!  Instead, we love the anticipation of turning the key in the door and discovering the little quirks, thoughtful touches and unique nuances of our temporary home-away-from-home.  It’s fun to go from room to room, each one a discovery.  I’ve always been delighted with our vacation rental accommodations, be they funky or fancy, modern or heritage.

Relax, you're on lake time
Relax, you’re on lake time when you get to The Cottage in Hills

Why stay in a cramped, anonymous hotel room on a noisy main drag when you can have your own spacious secluded cottage with a lovely landscaped yard?  At our Cottage in Hills, you’ll enjoy a full kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a gorgeous mountain view from your front porch and room for the kids (or you) to run around.  Best of all, you can walk to the beach or drive there in less than 3 minutes — I timed it the last time I went down for a refreshing dip on a hot day.  In wintertime, you can head out cross-country skiing right from your front porch.

Cottage in Hills is on the fabulous West Koot Route which is popular with motorists, bicyclists and motorcycle-touring enthusiasts.  World-class hiking, biking and exploring can be had from your front door.

Our objective at the Cottage in Hills is to provide you with a healthy, relaxing and rejuvenating vacation experience in a quiet, beautiful setting you will want to come back to year after year.  Dates are going fast so contact us now to discuss your booking.     —  Your host, Lorna
